AC Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has suffered yet another injury setback while on international duty with Sweden.

The Swedish striker was part of their squad for the European Championship qualifiers but didn’t participate in the game against Azerbaijan due to some discomfort.

As reported by Sky Sport Italia, medical tests have revealed a muscular injury in his thigh, and he will be further assessed on a weekly basis to determine the true extent of the ailment.

It is being speculated that Ibrahimovic will be sidelined for the entire month of April, meaning that he will miss the games against Napoli, Empoli, Bologna, Lecce and AS Roma.

The 41-year-old missed a large chunk of games this season due to a long-term anterior cruciate ligament injury and only returned to action at the end of the last month.

His increasing fitness problems could put a dent in his future at the San Siro, with his current deal expiring this summer.

The Swedish talisman has repeatedly shrugged off the retirement ideas and insisted on competing at the highest level, but his physical condition is not allowing him to do so.

It remains unclear whether the former LA Galaxy star will make a quick recovery and contribute during the business end of the season.

Olivier Giroud is expected to lead the attack against Napoli this weekend, and his absence was clearly reflected in the 3-1 defeat against Udinese before the international break.

Milan have failed to win any of their last four games, and they face an uphill battle against the league leaders on Sunday.
