But Giroud admits it was difficult to leave Chelsea after helping them win the Champions League title at the end of last season.

Via Le 10 Sport, he told Telefoot: “Chelsea? It's hard to leave such a club. It's hard to leave England because I spent nine years there. All my children are there, my family felt really good there.

"I liked the Premier League a lot too, but at some point you had to make a decision. The last three months that I lived there and besides I had told the coach (Thomas) Tuchel, it was too hard."

Indeed, the 34 year-old admitted he needed to leave Chelsea as he sought regular football. His contract with Milan runs to 2023.

Giroud added: "For me, it was obvious to leave the club, it's a page that was turned with emotion, wonderful moments spent. Good memories, less good ones, but there were still three nice titles."

This season, the veteran has played four games and struck twice with AC Milan.

Joining Chelsea three years ago from Arsenal, Giroud won the FA Cup and a Europa League title, along with the Champions League.
