AC Milan President Paolo Scaroni says that the San Siro project has “difficulties” and the Rossoneri prefer building a stadium in San Donato.

Scaroni spoke to Milan TV, via FCInterNews, about the stadium situation.

Friday marked a major turning point in the stadium situation of Inter and AC Milan.

The two clubs finally delivered a firm response to the proposal of Milan Mayor Beppe Sala and architectural firm WeBuild to renovate the San Siro.

The Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri made clear that, even if the iconic stadium is to be renovated, they will not stay in it in the long term.

That does not mean, however, that the clubs have made a final decision on the future in general.

There is still the possibility of a new stadium inside the city limits of Milan.

Inter and Milan continue to consider the possibility of building a new stadium adjacent to the San Siro.

The clubs cannot tear down the existing stadium and build in its place, as had been their plan for several years. But the San Siro area is still a possibility.

AC Milan President Scaroni: “San Siro Project Has Difficulties, We Prefer San Donato”

On the other hand, Inter and Milan have both made significant headway on projects outside of Milan.

In the Rossoneri’s case, their focus has been on the commune of San Donato. They have already bought land in the area.

And Inter have been working in the commune of Rozzano.

Inter and Milan have also increasingly come together on the idea of building a new stadium together rather than separately since Oaktree Capital took over as Nerazzurri owners.

The two clubs could very well build in either the San Siro area or in San Donato.

Rossoneri President Scaroni said that “The idea has emerged of reviving the old San Siro project.”

He called that “An old dream of mine.”

“But that would be a path with difficulties. There would be nothing straightforward or obvious.”

“But we have San Donato as our number one priority,” Scaroni made clear. “We’re clear that San Donato is moving forward, and that’s the idea that we prefer at the moment.”

Scaroni added that “There was a meeting with the Mayor of Milan the other day.”

“We spoke with him about the idea of staying in the city of Milan,” the Milan President said.

“We explained that the renovation idea isn’t a possibility. The result would never be at the level that the Milan clubs deserve.”
