AC Milan look to be in pole position to secure the signature of Lille OSC’s Paulo Fonseca as their next head coach. However, while the club consider this to be a masterstoke that could see a progressive manager signed up to the project for at least two years (with an option to extend for one further year), the fans are far less certain.
According to Sport Mediaset, the Milan ultras are not keen on a former AS Roma manager taking charge of their club and will look to protest the choice in today’s farewell to their current head coach Stefano Pioli.
There are reports that the Milan fans will stay silent for the entire first half of the final game of the season as they try to demonstrate their displeasure at the links with Fonseca. The Curva Sud released a statement declaring “The message to the entire Milan board must be clear: The Rossoneri are no longer willing to accept projects that are not aimed at achieving the highest level both in Italy and in Europe.”
A strange goodbye then to their current coach as well as to Olivier Giroud (37) who will be departing the club to join Los Angeles FC this summer.
