The heartbreaking news has emerged that an AC Milan supporter passed away after an accident following Wednesday night’s game against Red Star.

As Calciomercato.com write, what was meant to be a special evening following his beloved team in the most prestigious competition turned into tragedy for Diego Bertoni, a 30-year-old who also played for Cassina Calcio.

He died in an accident while returning home from San Siro on his motorbike with his wife. The couple are believed to have crashed into a tree on Via Palmanova in Milano shortly before 02:00am. Initial reconstructions of the accident suggest that Bertoni lost control of the motorbike.

Despite attempts to resuscitate him, he did not make it. His wife, also 30, was rescued and transported with a yellow code to the San Raffaele hospital, where she was admitted but her life is not expected to be in danger.

The news of Bertoni’s death has deeply shaken the community of Cassina Calcio, an amateur team in the First Category, Group L. Team-mates, managers and fans have united in grief for this sudden and tragic loss. The club wanted to pay homage to Bertoni with a touching message.
