Joris Chotard (23) was heavily linked with a move away from Montpellier HSC in the summer before ultimately remaining with his formative club, however, he is now being targeted by an Italian giant, according to a report from Gazzetta dello Sport.
As per L’Équipe, Chotard was the subject of an approach from Wolfsburg in the summer. The offer from the Bundesliga side was worth €7m plus €2m in add-ons and despite La Paillade’s fragile financial situation, that offer was rejected. Sporting director Bruno Carotti rejected that approach on the assumption that a second bid would arrive. It did not and Chotard stayed at the Mosson. Given the France U21 international’s desire to take on a new challenge and MHSC’s need to sell, it was an arrangement that didn’t really suit either party. The relationship between Chotard and Carotti has reportedly been strained ever since.
However, the midfielder may get another chance to leave the club come January. AC Milan are in the market for midfield reinforcements and his is a name that has been added to their shortlist. Lucas Gourna-Douath of RB Salzburg and Boubakary Soumaré also feature on the Serie A side’s shortlist.
