AC Milan coach Stefano Pioli admitted his team needs a much-improved display to stand a chance against Inter Milan on Monday.

The 58-year-old was speaking following his side’s elimination from the Europa League at the hands of AS Roma.

The capital side had already prevailed 1-0 in the first leg of the quarter-final at San Siro. The Rossoneri had to turn the result upside-down at the Stadio Olimpico in the second leg, but instead suffered another defeat.

Gianluca Mancini and Paulo Dybala scored early for Daniele De Rossi’s side. Zeki Celik then gave Milan a new lease of life when he earned his marching orders for a vicious tackle on Rafael Leao.

But despite the numerical advantage for the majority of the match, the Diavolo only scored once through Matteo Gabbia.

Therefore, Pioli was far from pleased with his team’s display. He noted that Milan must be considerably better if they plan on securing a positive result against Inter.

“For the Derby we have to change many things, starting with the intensity of our performance,” said the former Lazio and Fiorentina boss in his post-match press conference via FcInterNews.

“We have to raise the level. If we play like this against Inter, we have no chance, and I think the boys know it.

“We must and can prove that we are better than this.

Stefano Pioli Feels AC Milan Won’t Stand A Chance Vs Inter Milan If They Don’t Improve

“The fans reminded us how important Monday’s game is. Obviously, they won’t be happy with tonight’s elimination.”

Milan will be hoping to delay Inter’s Scudetto celebration by at least securing a draw in the Derby della Madonnina.

On the contrary, Simone Inzaghi’s men will be determined to seal the deal and clinch the title at the expense of their crosstown rivals.
