Derby County drew 0-0 with Preston North End at Deepdale yesterday and many Rams fans have been full of praise for midfielder Graeme Shinnie.

Against a background of ongoing off-field issues and uncertainty, Wayne Rooney’s side continue to show fight and determination – having lost just once in their last six games.

The Rams were hamstrung yesterday by the injury to Sam Baldock, meaning attacking midfielder Louie Sibley was used as their central striker for the majority of the game.

Defensively, however, they were resolute once again as they kept Preston at bay to pick up a third consecutive clean sheet and remain the side with the joint-best defensive record in the division – equal with league leaders Bournemouth.

The goalkeeper and backline deserve a lot of credit for that record but so do the midfield and Shinnie was their shining light in that area yesterday.

The Scotsman won six of his nine ground duels and two of his three in the air as well as making four tackles and two clearances (Sofascore).

He was pivotal going forward as well – taking 97 touches, completing 89% of his passes, making four key passes, and having three shots (Sofascore).
