Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hailed the performance of Marcus Rashford, who marked his 200th appearance for the club with a brace against Norwich City.
The Red Devils had gone into the game on a three-match winless in all competitions but they were able to comfortably beat the Canaries by a 4-0 scoreline at Old Trafford.
Rashford was among the pick of the players with a goal in either half and he was eventually named as the man of the match by the fans ahead of midfielder Juan Mata.
In the post-match press conference, Solskjaer was delighted with the overall display from the England international and appreciated the forward for reaching a special appearance landmark.
“The work-rate, attitude and the goals he scored today. The first one, a good finish. The second one was very calm and composed on his penalty. What an achievement to get to 200 games at his age. He’s been absolutely top class to work with. He’s a great kid, with a great attitude,” he told.
Rashford has now netted 19 times during the course of the current season and he is enjoying his best-ever return in a single campaign with the club – the previous best being 13 goals in all competitions.
In terms of the Premier League, he has scored 14 times from 22 appearances and is presently three goals behind Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy in the pursuit of the Golden Boot accolade.
Manchester United have maintained their five-point deficit to the top four after returning to winning ways on Saturday. Their focus will now shift to the FA Cup where they have a third-round replay against Wolverhampton Wanderers at home.
Following that game, they have a Premier League clash against fierce rivals Liverpool at Anfield. United have picked up draws in the previous two meetings against the Reds and they have the opportunity to inflict a first league defeat for the Merseyside outfit this season.
