Derby County centre-back Curtis Davies has vowed his team will continue to try and make everyone proud in their brave battle against relegation, having received a further nine-point deduction yesterday.

Up against it already with their initial 12-point punishment for their entrance into administration in September, the Rams had fought to regain a positive points tally and looked on course to close in on the likes of Hull City and Barnsley before suffering recent losses against Blackburn Rovers and the latter.

Going winless in their last seven league matches, their task of remaining afloat in the second tier has become even trickier with yesterday’s development as they fall back to a points total of -3.

Quiz: Have Derby County ever won an away game at each of these 20 stadiums?

Sitting 18 points adrift of safety with 29 Championship matches to go, their relegation to League One looks all but set in stone unless they can produce one of the all-time greatest footballing miracles under Wayne Rooney, although that looks unlikely considering their lack of squad depth and the future transfer restrictions they look set to face in January.

One man that spoke out after the points deduction news was 36-year-old Davies, who did admit this was a huge blow to his side, but looked more towards the long-term future for optimism with a prospective owner in Chris Kircher potentially ready to take the reins if the takeover can be finalised.
