After their play-off semi-final defeat to Leeds United last week, Norwich City are preparing for another season in the Championship.

The Canaries were defeated 4-0 at Elland Road, ending their promotion chances, and manager David Wagner was sacked in the aftermath, meaning the club are searching for a new manager now.

This summer will be a fresh start at Carrow Road, and whilst it remains to be seen who'll be appointed as the club's new head coach, it's safe to assume that certain players will attract transfer interest during the summer months.

Norwich were relegated from the Premier League in May 2022, and this means that this will be their last season of parachute payments as this will be their third season in the Championship.

Given that their parachute payments are set to come to an end next year, the club may be forced to cash in on star players this summer to ensure the Canaries are left on a secure financial footing for the future.

Norwich City fan pundit resigned to losing Jon Rowe this summer

Following an impressive breakthrough campaign, Jon Rowe will attract transfer interest this summer, just as he did in January.

Wolves have been credited with interest in the 21-year-old recently, and it's likely that other clubs will join the race in the weeks to come.

He was the subject of transfer interest from Spurs in January, but remained at Carrow Road and has struggled with injuries during the second-half of the season.

However, our Norwich City fan pundit, Zeke Downes, believes that the club will need to sell Rowe if they're to make new signings this summer, although the likes of Josh Sargent and Gabriel Sara are tipped to stay to try and get the Norfolk outfit back in the top flight.

Zeke told Football League World: “I personally can’t see many of our star players leaving. Maybe that’s just blind optimism, but in order to get players we’re probably going to need to sell one or two.

I can see (Christos) Tzolis leaving - if Fortuna Düsseldorf don’t go up then they won’t be able to afford to buy him so that would then mean we’re able to get more of a fee. I would personally keep him because he is very good, and we’ve never given him a chance.

“I think Adam Idah is going to leave, although without him we’re stuck with just one striker, but I think (Josh( Sargent will stay, (Borja) Sainz will stay, (Gabriel) Sara will stay, but I think Rowe might leave. "So it’ll be Rowe and Idah leaving, but it should leave us with about £20/25million, maybe £30million, which will be enough to then buy the two left-backs we need, the two centre-backs we need, and another striker.

“We can then bring in (Abu) Kamara, and give him Rowe’s minutes. I think he would be a really good like-for-like replacement.”

Summer provides Norwich City with the perfect chance to rebuild

Despite reaching the play-offs last season, it's clear that plenty of Norwich City supporters weren't overly pleased with how the season went, hence David Wagner's sacking.

Appointing a new manager, coupled with plenty of experienced players being released this summer, suggests that Canaries' Sporting Director Ben Knappper realises the scale of what needs to be done this summer.

Having to sell players like Jon Rowe is not ideal, as the 21-year-old is clearly one of Norwich's best players, if not the best, but that money could subsequently be reinvested into the squad, giving them more depth and a better balanced squad, allowing them to be more competitive next season.

Also, as Zeke pointed out above, Rowe's departure will lead to players like Abu Kamara getting the chance to show what he's capable of after an impressive loan spell at Portsmouth.

Despite their recent play-off defeat and seemingly inevitable Jon Rowe departure, there are reasons to be positive for Norwich City.

A rebuild this summer could see them in a healthier position both financially and on the pitch, and with the Championship perhaps looking weaker next season than it has been during the current campaign, the Canaries should be targeting promotion.
