Former Premier League star Danny Murphy has heaped praise on Marcus Rashford for his goal-scoring performance against Southampton.

Marcus Rashford has been a frustrated figure at Old Trafford in recent months after the Manchester United star hasn’t been able to find his best form.

The 26-year-old has looked a completely different payer to the star who scored 30 goals in Erik ten Hag’s debut season in the 2022/23 campaign.

Rashford has been heavily criticised for his performances and will be hoping his goal at Saint Mary’s in the 3-0 win against Southampton will kick start his confidence and turn around his form.

Danny Murphy praises Marcus Rashford’s Southampton performance

Danny Murphy appeared on BBC’s Match of the Day and offered his analysis of Rashford’s performance against newly promoted Southampton.

Speaking on MOTD, the former Premier League star said: “I thought that both Manchester United and himself started poorly, and that was due to Southampton being really good in the first 20 to 30 minutes.

“But once they recovered from that, a good spell of pressure from Southampton, he grew into the game and looked more like the Rashford we know, causing teams problems with his pace and his dynamism.

“It’s his best performance of the season. I think when he doesn’t think and he just really is direct and confident in his play, it makes such a difference.

“We know he’s got that explosive pace and that ability to scare [ defenders].

“He just grew into the game as the whole United team did. One goes [shot] goes in for you, a great little finish like that, all of a sudden he starts getting on the ball more, and he starts looking confident.”
