Celtic take on Aberdeen at Pittodrie this lunchtime in the first away fixture of the new Scottish Premiership season for Brendan Rodgers and his team.

Celtic ran out emphatic 5-1 winners in the post split visit to Pittodrie back in May but Just over a week later Jimmy Thelin’s side shocked the Hoops and denied them a Treble by winning the Scottish Cup final in a penalty shootout in a match where Celtic were far from at their best.
Aberdeen took full advantage and lifted the old trophy for the first time since 1990. No wonder their supporters celebrated so wildly.

For Celtic today represents a chance to put things right and Brendan Rodgers will be demanding a much better performance than the team showed in the Flag Day opener against St Mirren at Celtic Park last Sunday when a late Luke McCowan goal gave a subdued Celtic the three points.
Team News

Brendan Rodgers has a full squad to choose from with the notable exception of long term absentee Jota whose ACL injury will keep him on the sidelines until 2026.
However after last week’s performance Rodgers may well look at a few changes with evergreen winger James Forrest being preferred to the inconsistent Yang. Luke McCowan’s goalscoring threat might make him a contender for a start against the Dons this lunchtime.
Predicted Celtic Team
Kasper Schmeichel will have the gloves and will be determined for a clean sheet after his Hampden howler made him an unlikely Aberdeen hero.

Alistair Johnston and Kieran Tierney will be the two Celtic fullbacks with the same partnership in central defence of Cameron Carter-Vickers and Liam Scales.

Callum McGregor and Reo Hatate will be in the centre of the park with the Japanese playmaker looking for some revenge of his own after picking up a nasty injury at Pittodrie in May that kept him out of the Scottish Cup final.
Benjamin Nygren may well keep his place despite failing to shine last weekend, with Arne Engels a possible replacement.
Nygren will probably get the nod and that will see both Engels and Luke McCowan being on the Celtic bench.

Adam Idah will get another chance to impress leading the line with Daizen Maeda on the left and James Forrest replacing Yang on Celtic’s right wing.
Match Officials
John Beaton – Photo Malcolm Mackenzie PSI
John Beaton will be the man in charge of today’s match at Pittodrie and he will be assisted by David McCeachie and Graeme Stewart.
Our old friend Andrew Dallas will be on VAR duties and Hugh’s boy will be assisted by Alan Mulvanny. What could possibly go wrong?
Kick-off Time
Aberdeen versus Celtic kicks off at 12.30pm

Predicted Score
Three goals for Celtic and three points with Kasper Schmeichel celebrating his clean sheet at the end to shut up the home support.
