Benjamin Siegrist is being considered by Aberdeen as a possible replacement for current stopper, Kelle Roos. The big Dutchman is said to be mulling his future options and whilst the Dons await the arrival of new manager, Jimmy Thelin, from Elfsborg in the Swedish top-flight, talks with Roos remain inconclusive ahead of his contract expiring in June.

Siegrist, who was signed as a free agent by Aussie, Ange Postecoglou back in the summer transfer window of 2020, has rarely been seen in a Celtic kit and is behind Joe Hart and now even Scott Bain in the pecking order it would appear. For whatever reason, he just hasn’t been fancied and is probably also at a disadvantage when coming up against Bain with the homegrown players rule with UEFA registration every year.

A strong, steady enough ‘keeper when he was at Tannadice, he put in some very good showings for the Tayside outfit and was good against Scotland’s big two as well. It remains to be seen what the future holds for Benji, but I’m sure someone will take a chance on the goalkeeper and with Football Scotland reporting that Kelle Roos has stalled on making a quick decision on his new deal, the Dons are making contingency plans for such an event, and Seigrist is one of the irons in the fire.

With two years left on his current deal too, it means that Brendan Rodgers will be able to demand a transfer fee for a player that is not in his plans, whilst it also frees up wages and a space in the squad for the Irishman to make us more competitive next season.

With multiple deals on the horizon after the campaign comes to a close on 25 May, Siegrist could be just one of a good few who are shipped out as Rodgers rebuilds this team in his image.
