Sunderland defender Bailey Wright reportedly is “in no rush to move” despite interest from Aberdeen and Hibs.

The Dons were the first to be linked with a loan move for the Championship defender while former Black Cats boss Lee Johnson is said to be keen on reuniting with him at Easter Road.

Black Cats boss Tony Mowbray indicated that Wright remains part of his plans ahead of Sunday’s victory against Middlesbrough and it seems the 30-year-old is content with staying at the Stadium of Light.

Journalist Alan Nixon has shed some insight into the Australia international’s stance and claimed he is in “no rush to move” despite interest from north of the border.

Wright originally joined Sunderland on loan before making the move permanently in the summer of 2020 and has made 107 appearances for them in total.

He penned a new two-year contract extension in the summer that will keep him at the North East club until at least 2024.

Wright has found himself down the pecking order this term but has been a useful bit-part player and helped the Black Cats enjoy a strong start to life back in the second tier.

The Verdict

It seems the 30-year-old is in no rush to leave Sunderland, which is no surprise given he penned a new deal in the summer and the club appear to be on the rise under Mowbray.

Wright may no longer be first choice at centre-back but he’s still a useful option for the Black Cats to have and has had opportunities to impress this term.

It may be a situation that the North East club and the player both reassess in the summer.

But for the time being, it seems as though a loan move to a Scottish club is unlikely.
