Roma are closing in on an official agreement with Al-Hilal for right-back Saud Abdulhamid, who will become the first Saudi player to play in Serie A should his move go through.

The 25-year-old, who has previously covered at centre-back when needed, looks increasingly likely to join Daniele De Rossi’s Roma, according to Thursday’s reports from Corriere dello Sport.

Roma still looking for more defensive additions

The Giallorossi are hoping to seal a deal in for a price in the region of €4m, which would not rule out the possibility of the club signing another defensive player before the end of the transfer window.

Roma are increasingly desperate for a new right-back, as Zeki Celik is the only senior player who naturally prefers to play there amongst the current squad.

Corriere dello Sport add that Lorenz Assignon of Rennes in Ligue 1 remains of interest, as does Marc Pubill of Almeira, despite the fact that he recently failed a medical with Atalanta.
