Former Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey has completed a Bosman move to Ligue 1 side OGC Nice, according to a report from The Athletic.

Having spent the second half of last season on loan at Scottish champions Rangers for whom he missed a decisive penalty in the Europa League final shootout against eventual winners Eintracht Frankfurt, Ramsey has opted to terminate his contract with Juventus for a severance fee of around £3.4million, per The Sun.

Ramsey’s decision to leave Turin was quite understandable given his struggle for playing minutes since joining the Old Lady three years ago since which he has managed to make just 49 league appearances in three years.

The arrival of Manuel Locatelli, Denis Zakaria and Paul Pogba from Sassuolo, Borussia Mönchengladbach and Manchester United respectively in the last three windows has also further diminished Ramsey’s chances of featuring consistently so it was no surprise to see him part ways with Juventus.

In a bid to secure regular game time ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in November where Ramsey will be looking to star for Wales, the 31-year-old has joined Nice on a free transfer ahead of the upcoming campaign.

Ramsey becomes Les Aiglons’ fifth foray into the summer market following the earlier acquisitions of Alexis Beka Beka, Rares Ilie, Marcin Bulka and Badredine Bouanani.

A deal for Leicester City’s Kasper Schmeichel is also expected to be completed in the coming days with the goalkeeper set to undergo a medical later this week ahead of his move to the Allianz Riviera.

Off the back of a fifth-place finish in Ligue 1, Nice are looking to bolster their squad to deal with the added burden of European football as Lucien Favre prepares for his second spell with the club off the back of Christophe Galtier’s departure to Paris Saint-Germain.
