Aaron Ramsdale’s hopes of laying claim to the Arsenal no.1 spot got off to a difficult start at Brentford.
The England international was handed a rare start for Saturday’s London derby owing to David Raya being ineligible to face his parent club.
But Ramsdale’s prospects were soon undermine as he almost gifted the hosts an opener midway through the first half.
An attempt to play out from the back saw the Bees’ Yoane Wissa pile pressure on him and feed Bryan Mbeumo for a goal-bound attempt.
Fortunately for Ramsdale, Declan Rice was on-hand to avert the danger with a vital clearance on the line.
Mikel Arteta’s dilemma over his preferred goalkeeper for the Gunners may just have become a little less complicated.
