Barnsley have completed the signing of Belgium striker Aaron Leya Iseka on a four-year deal.

The 23-year-old joins The Tykes from Toulouse in France’s second-tier, but the highly-rated forward spent last season on loan with FC Metz in Ligue 1.

The frontman scored four goals in 12 starts and nine appearances from the bench, adding a further goal in the French Cup.

Iseka progressed through academy football in his homeland with Anderlecht, spending 10 years with the club at youth level before he made his debut for the senior team aged 17.

Spending four years with the Belgian giants, the young forward made eight appearances but was unable to find the back of the net.

After a couple of loan spells away, Toulouse signed Iseka in 2018. In three years with the French club, he netted six times, before a loan move to the top-tier was completed.

Taking to Twitter after his arrival, Iseka has said: “Very proud to take this new step in my career @BarnsleyFC. A new league in a new country – Can’t wait to get started #THEREDS.”

The verdict

Daryl Dike’s departure is expected to leave a void for The Tykes this upcoming campaign. But, the arrivals of Iseka and fellow Belgian striker Obbi Oulare will certainly help the club remain physical in forward areas.

Competition levels will be very high for a starting spot up front for The Reds. The recently signed Belgian duo will have to tussle with club captain Cauley Woodrow, Devante Cole, and Carlton Morris for regular first-team football during the 2021/22 campaign.

Iseka is a forward who can offer a bit of everything. He has the physical presence to hold the ball up and bring others into play, whilst possessing the pace required to be a threat in behind. He is also dangerous when in possession and has the ability to drive past players with his quick feet.
