‘A tough match’… Pedri reacts after seeing Barcelona drop another three points against Leganes

FC Barcelona fell to an unexpected defeat in their second but last game of 2024 as they were unable to overcome Leganes at Montjuic last night. The visitors were able to get in front rather early in the match, and despite their efforts, the Blaugranes were unable to get the ball in the back of the net throughout the game.

The forwards, Raphinha, Lewandowski, and Yamal, were all far from their best. Yamal was seemingly impacted by a blow to his ankle early in the game, which ultimately saw him getting subbed off a quarter of an hour before the full-time whistle.

However, the rest of the team still tried their best to get a result, and one player who maintained his high standards in this game was the midfielder Pedri. As SPORT has reported, he also talked to the media after the game, and shared his thoughts on the match:

“It was a tough match, to be honest. It’s impossible to leave happy today. I think we started a bit asleep, they scored that goal, and then we woke up. We created chances but lacked spark.”

The midfielder also rued his team’s ability to make their chances count in front of goal:

“We need to start matches better. When a team like this scores quickly, they drop a lot of players back. And we lacked the spark and clarity in front of goal. We’re going through a rough patch and we need to improve.”

Pedri also highlighted the reason why Barcelona have been unable to keep up their momentum from the start of the season:

“Well, there have been many games, but that’s not an excuse. We are well-prepared and enter matches in good shape, but we need to finish with the same confidence we have in the Champions League. If you don’t score, it’s impossible to win. We need to improve that.”

There is no doubt that Barcelona were unable to make their chances count in this game, and this lack of efficiency ultimately cost them the full three points in the game. Hopefully, the team will heed Pedri’s concerns and work on this aspect going forward.
