Hull City had a major revamp of the squad in the summer as new owner Acun Ilicali looked to put his stamp on his new football club.

One of the new arrivals was experienced midfielder Ozan Tufan, who joined the Tigers from Turkish giants Fenerbahce in a deal worth €3.00m.

The midfielder played over 180 games for the Turkish outfit and also had spells at other Turkish clubs, such as Alanyaspor and Bursaspor.

As well as playing in Turkey, the 27-year-old also had a brief spell in England last season, playing for Watford in the Premier League. Tufan joined the Hornets on loan, but the deal came to an end earlier than expected, and he went back to Fenerbahce.

However, that wasn’t to be his final spell in England, as he returned this summer to sign for Hull. Since joining the Championship side, he has grabbed four goals in 20 appearances, but since Liam Rosenior’s appointment as their new manager, the Turkish international has yet to start a game.

Now a report from Turkey has emerged that Turkish side Besiktas are keen on bringing Tufan back to the county in the January transfer window.

Here at FLW, we asked Hull City fan pundit Ant Northgraves about his thoughts on a potential departure for Tufan.

He told FLW: “Ozan Tufan is a strange one because I think the fanbase all loves him; we know how good he can be.

“He’s perhaps been a little inconsistent since joining, but I think he’s the kind of player Liam Rosenior would like to have around. He’s good with the ball at his feet, and he’s good at intricate passes with the backline.

“He would fit the new possession-based system Rosenior is trying to implement. But then again, if his heart isn’t fully in it or he’s not properly acclimatised to the Championship, and may be looking for a way out. You don’t want players that aren’t 100% committed and if the club can get the fee they spent on him to give Rosenior 4 or 5 million on a player that is useful to the league, it wouldn’t be such a bad thing.

“It would be sad to see him go because I do think he’s got potential for this team. But like we say if he goes, it’s one of these where I’m not really entirely bothered if he stays or goes, I’d be happy either way.”

Quiz: Have any of these 25 ex-Hull City players ever played for a London based team?

YES NO

The Verdict

Tufan seemed a key player under the former manager, but since Rosenior’s arrival, his game time has been sporadic.

The January transfer window is the first opportunity Rosenior will have to put his mark on his new squad. Therefore, there might be a few incomings and outgoings at the KCOM this January, and Tufan could possibly be one of the departures.

As Ant says, it would make sense from Hull that if Tufan isn’t part of Rosenior’s plans or doesn’t want to be at the club anymore, to let him go and what money they get for him is to let Rosenior use to improve his team.
