Jose Mourinho lavishes praise on Tottenham Hotspur forward Carlos Vinicius

According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho has hailed the impact made by striker Carlos Vinicius since his arrival at the club last summer.

The 25-year-old Brazilian arrived at Tottenham from Portuguese outfit SL Benfica on a season-long loan deal. Since joining, Vinicius has had to play second-fiddle to Spurs’ star man Harry Kane. As a result, game-time has been hard to come by in the Premier League. Indeed, he has just started six league games so far, starting just one.

However, Vinicius has made the most of his opportunities in the domestic cup competitions as well as the UEFA Europa League. In total, he has managed a return of 9 goals and 3 assists from 19 matches in all competitions. (h/t Transfermarkt)

And, Mourinho has heaped praise on the Brazilian, claiming that he is a special guy for toughing it out at Tottenham knowing that Kane is the undisputed first-choice for the centre-forward berth.

“He has one problem, and the problem is Harry Kane. It’s as simple as that. You need to be a special guy, you need to be a special heart, a special mentality, a special feeling in relation to what you mean for the team, what the team expects from you. “To be a striker in the same team as Harry Kane then you need to be a special guy, always motivated, always happy to have one minute, five minutes or start the game. He is giving us what we want. In the Premier League he is going to play because we have so many matches that Kane cannot play every match.”

As part of the agreement with Benfica, Tottenham have the option of making Vinicius’ signing permanent at the end of the campaign for a transfer fee of £45m. It remains to be seen if the club decides to take up that option.
