The Red Dragons gained back-to-back promotions in the last two years, and have made a competitive start to their first year back in the third tier since 2005.

Phil Parkinson’s side will be eyeing another promotion push this year, with the club’s sights set on the Championship.

However, they will need key players to step up this term, as they will face stiff competition in the battle for a place in the second tier.

Three promotions in a row would be a great achievement for this ambitious club, but it won’t be possible without the likes of George Dobson, Elliot Lee and Arthur Okonkwo performing at their absolute best for the entire campaign.

When asked which of the team’s players should be competing at a higher level, FLW’s Wrexham fan pundit Liam Grice named Okonkwo.

He has credited the goalkeeper with already earning the team crucial points with his performances and believes the 23-year-old would be a natural fit for any decent Championship side.

“I think Arthur Okonkwo, our goalkeeper, could already be playing at a pretty decent Championship standard,” Grice told Football League World.

“We have him to thank for a lot of points we've accumulated in the season already.

“He’s come up clutch in big moments when our defence has been beaten.

“He always had potential because he was in the ranks at Arsenal, and they wouldn’t have somebody that wasn’t up to the standard of maybe playing for them in the future.

“So, I think for us to get him on loan in League Two was a real coup, and for us to then make that loan move permanent when we went up was an even bigger one.

“I was surprised that we got him, and really thankful that we got him, but he could definitely be playing Championship football.”

Arthur Okonkwo’s impact at Wrexham

Okonkwo signed for Wrexham from Arsenal in the summer of 2023 on an initial loan basis, helping the club gain promotion from League Two.

The goalkeeper made 36 appearances in the fourth division, keeping 13 clean sheets and conceding 30 times (all stats from Fbref).

The youngster signed permanently to Parkinson’s side last summer ahead of their return to League One and has started all 10 of their opening games.

Okonkwo will be hoping to play a key role in helping the club once again gain promotion, as they set their sights on the Championship.

Okonkwo signing has proven a shrewd addition at Wrexham

Wrexham have made a lot of signings as part of their rise from non-league football to the third tier of English football, but Okonkwo is one of the true standouts.

The goalkeeper has been an excellent signing, especially given he was signed as a free agent from Arsenal after his loan spell ended.

If he can keep up this level of performance then he could even compete in the Championship with Wrexham in the near future.
