One player heavily linked with a summer move to Manchester City is Nottingham Forest’s England international Morgan Gibbs-White. Ahad Shaukat has previously reported for CaughtOffside that Manchester City are considered the favourites to sign Gibbs-White this summer. There is a creative void in Manchester City’s midfield, and signing Gibbs-White would help fill it. Now, a new report has emerged on what transfer fee Nottingham Forest would demand to sell the England international. It does appear to be a price that would suit Manchester City.
Tom Collomosse has hosted a Q&A segment on Nottingham Forest’s summer transfer plans for the Daily Mail. When asked what transfer fee Forest would sell the England international for, Collomosse quoted £70 million. Furthermore, Collomosse reports that the Nottingham Forest squad expect Gibbs-White to leave the club this summer. It is also included in Collomosse’s report that Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo is frustrated by the constant speculation that surrounds the future of Morgan Gibbs-White. But despite the speculation surrounding his future, Gibbs-White has played well of late for his team. That is a credit to him and his professionalism.
Manchester City look set to undergo a significant rebuild this summer. They need at least two midfielders, possibly two full-backs and potentially a goalkeeper. There is also the possibility that they will have to cover the departure of key players throughout the summer. Who departs Manchester City remains to be seen. Given that City look to be set to embark on a sizable rebuild, they’ll be looking to find transfers that represent good value this summer.
Morgan Gibbs-White at £70 million could be one of those. It is to be expected that Nottingham Forest would demand a sizable fee for arguably their most important player. There is also a Premier League tax that always seemingly applies to sign English players. The potential that Manchester City may need to sign more homegrown players this summer is also very real. So, for £70 million, Morgan Gibbs-White would fill this void and potentially add to Pep Guardiola’s squad.
Morgan Gibbs-White showed what he could add to Pep Guardiola’s squad throughout this season and during Manchester City’s 2-nil win over Nottingham Forest during City’s recent FA Cup semi-final win. The reported £70 million price tag represents good value for what the England international could add to Pep Guardiola’s squad. At this stage, it would be a surprise if Manchester City didn’t move for Morgan Gibbs-White. Especially considering the reported price tag and what Manchester City desperately need in midfield this summer.
