Filip Jorgensen has been one of the more curious buys of this Chelsea ownership so far.
Signed for around €25m a year ago from Villareal, the first warning signs came before the deal was even done. Fans of the Spanish club were not unhappy to lose the young Danish-Swede. In fact, they were surprised by the fee we were paying them.
It was clear from pretty early on that Jorgensen wasn’t going to replace Robert Sanchez, and instead the youngster just played in the cups. He played in all but one of our Conference League games, making some nice saves along the way but not exactly proving himself cut out for the big chair.

This summer there has been some speculation that he might be loaned out, and now we’re even hearing there was interest in some clubs from buying him.
The Sun’s Chelsea Files today say that “recent claims that Filip Jorgensen is seeking to leave after only a year at the club are also thought to be unfounded.”
“A number of clubs are believed to have enquired about Jorgensen’s availability for sale or loan in the current transfer window but he has no interest in quitting Stamford Bridge.”
We wouldn’t want to weaken our squad by selling a player without an equal replacement, but from a financial point of view it would probably make sense to cash in on him now. With no Conference League this year, Jorgensen is going to be on the bench a lot more than last year, and his value is only going to continue to drop if that’s the case.
We all hope that Mike Penders is first team ready after a year developing on loan with Strasbourg, and at that point it would likely come down to a decision between selling Sanchez or Jorgensen.
