Pundit Carlton Palmer believes it would be a huge blow to Bristol City’s chances of a top-six finish if Cameron Pring were to leave the club.

It has emerged in the last few days that the Robins left-back is a wanted man, with Scottish Premiership side Rangers keen on the player.

Rangers eye Cameron Pring deal

According to The Scottish Sun, Rangers are considering a move for Bristol City’s Cameron Pring.

The Gers’ current left-back Ridvan Yilmaz is attracting interest from Serie A side Hellas Verona, and with that being the case, the Scottish side have eyed Pring as a possible replacement.

The 25-year-old defender has been in good form for the Robins this season and has made the starting left-back very much his own in the last 18 months.

Pring is a product of Bristol City’s academy, and in the early parts of his career, he had several loan spells in non-league and the EFL.

He spent six months at Portsmouth in his last loan spell, and it was after there that he returned to Ashton Gate and started cementing his place in the starting XI.

Pring has played in all but one of the Robins’ league games this season, and with him still under contract for two more years, they will want him to continue performing as they try to reach the Premier League.

Carlton Palmer: Cameron Pring’s departure would be a massive blow for Bristol City

Here, we asked pundit Carlton Palmer for his thoughts on Rangers being interested in Bristol City’s Cameron Pring and how much he could potentially be worth.

He told FLW: “Glasgow Rangers are reported to want Bristol City’s left-back, Cameron Pring, as a replacement for Ridvan Yilmaz.

“The 25-year-old has two years remaining on his contract, so Bristol City are in the driving seat. It would be a huge blow to Bristol City and their manager Liam Manning in their hopes to finish in the top six.

“Bristol City would receive a fee in excess of £2 million in my opinion and Manning could also have that money to re-invest in the team.

“It would be a massive blow for Bristol City, as I said, he’s made the left-back berth his own. He’s played every game this season and he’s been outstanding.

“It’ll be very disappointing for them, but this is football, and I’m sure Manning will be looking for a capable replacement.”

Bristol City must stand firm when it comes to Cameron Pring

As mentioned, Cameron Pring is under contract at Ashton Gate for another two years, so as Palmer states, the Championship side is still in a comfortable position.

However, that doesn’t mean that Bristol City should be calm about the situation, as if Rangers come knocking, it could be tempting for the player.

The Gers can offer Pring European football as well as probably more money than he is currently earning. Therefore, Bristol City need to stand firm and make their stance clear that Pring’s departure from the club will not be considered until the summer at the very earliest.
