Bristol City are considering a late January swoop for Luton Town striker Harry Cornick, according to Bristol Live.

As detailed in the report, the 27-year-old is on Nigel Pearson’s radar but he is not the only forward being considered by the Robins in the closing stages of this window.

It is thought that plans to sign Cornick have been accelerated by the expected sale of Antoine Semenyo to the Premier League.

Cornick is set to see his contract at Kenilworth Road expire in the summer, meaning he could be available for a cut-price fee, should Luton look to sanction his departure.

Seeing his game time decrease at Kenilworth Road after the additions of Carlton Morris and Cauley Woodrow, the pacey forward has still managed to impress and add another dynamic when called upon.

Three of our writers here at FLW have shared their thoughts on the Luton forward as Bristol City consider him as a striking option late on in this window…

It is no surprise that a Championship club are looking to try and take advantage of Cornick’s contract situation, although Rob Edwards will be wanting to keep hold of him as he represents a different kind of striking option to what he has at his disposal.

The lightning-quick, direct runner is someone who can cause havoc for opposing defences and has a lot of Championship experience behind him.

A player that has a lot of desirable attributes that would make him a strong addition at Ashton Gate, perhaps one thing he has lacked in the past, but has certainly improved at, is displaying a clinical edge.

This would represent a good addition at Bristol City and would help to soften the blow of losing Semenyo.

A deal that seems to make a lot of sense.

Harry Cornick was a player who really shined at Luton under Nathan Jones, but since Edwards’ appointment as their new manager, the 27-year-old has struggled to adapt himself to the new regime.

Over the years in the Championship, Cornick has managed to show that he is more than capable at this level. He is the type of attacker that works hard at the top end of the pitch, and his work ethic benefits the other players in the team.

The one concern would be that Cornick isn’t a prolific striker in terms of goals, and if these clubs are looking at him to be the main man in front of goal, then that would be a worry. However, the 27-year-old is probably very similar to what Antoine Semenyo was like for the Robins, a player that can play anywhere across the frontline, and the pace and directness he has in his locker can be a danger to any opposition.

Ned Holmes

Signing Harry Cornick could prove to be a shrewd move from Bristol City.

They have to be realistic, they’re not going to be able to bring in a player that can match Antoine Semenyo for talent but Cornick will offer them another attacking weapon.

He’s been a little out of favour at Luton Town this term but should slot nicely into City’s 4-3-3 – able to operate either as a wide forward or through the middle.

Cornick is a very technical forward but he’s certainly not slow and has shown he can deal with the physical side of the Championship as well.
