Speaking to the United Review (h/t The Mirror), the player has now opened up on the secret behind the celebration. The origins of his celebration are related to the Charruas, an indigenous Uruguayan population.

“It’s a bit of a long story and it’s kind of wrapped up in our country’s history, and the indigenous population, the Charruas.”

Cavani’s celebration is a celebration of the player’s daughter, India, and the Charruas. It is a celebration that has grown familiar to fans over the last decade.

“That arrow that I take out and then fire, is a goal celebration that sort of encapsulates all these things: a mix of my daughter’s name and the indigenous peoples of my country.”
