Despite being 36 years of age, the FC Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski is once again proving himself to be one of the best strikers in Europe.
He has already scored 31 goals in 33 games so far, making him the top scorer in La Liga with 19 goals and the second-highest scorer in the UEFA Champions League with 9 goals.
But in spite of his performances, his advanced age makes his future subject to a lot of uncertainty. However, his immediate future at the Catalan club is now clearer as Mundo Deportivo claims that the Pole has already agreed with Barcelona to extend his contract for another year.
There was a clause in his previous contract that would have provided him with an automatic one-year extension if he had played at least 55% of games for at least 45 minutes this season. He has been a fixed starter for Flick this season and would have reached this number by playing in the upcoming La Liga game against Rayo Vallecano.
But keeping in view his very good performances this season, the most important actors at the Catalan club, including President Laporta, his Board of Directors, Deco, and Flick, all unanimously agreed that Lewandowski deserves a place in this Barcelona team going forward.
However, as opposed to some previous expectations, there will not be an option for another additional year in his new contract. Thus, with this new contract, the Pole will stay at the Blaugrana team only till 2026, and would be free to leave at 37 years of age.
The veteran striker is fully committed to Barcelona, which is clear from the way he has declined most of the offers he has received from Saudi Arabia. In addition to his role in the team, his family being comfortably based in the Catalan city also compelled him to reject these advances from the Middle East.
