Robin van Persie reckons Anthony Martial is now in the ‘world-class’ bracket of players following the forward’s latest influential performance in Manchester United’s 1-0 win over FC Copenhagen.

Martial continued his fine form this season with another hugely impressive performance against the Danish side on Monday evening, the France international flourishing as Manchester United‘s attacking focal point and winning the penalty for Bruno Fernandes to score the extra-time winner to send the Red Devils into the Europa League’s last four.

Van Persie described the 24-year-old’s performance as ‘outstanding’ and believes Martial is a formidable proposition when in the mood, admitting the forward is simply ‘too fast’ and ‘too silky’ for opposing defenders.

“The outstanding player for me tonight was Martial,” Van Persie told BT Sport. “When he switches it on he’s just too fast, too silky and wow, what a player!”

Van Persie further praised Martial’s selfless style and admitted the forward is ‘a joy to watch’ in current form, believing the United star is a ‘world-class’ talent given his awareness and ability to both score and create.

“Martial, what a player he is. He is such a joy to watch. It’s like he’s having a kick-about in his own garden,” the former Man Utd striker added.

“What I like about Martial is he has an eye for his team-mates – he isn’t just playing for himself. He always has an eye for his team-mates and that’s what sets him apart from very good players.

“That’s why I think he’s world-class. He can provide, he can give assists, he dribbles, he’s fast but he has great awareness of what’s around him.”

Fellow pundit Paul Scholes was equally impressed by Martial’s latest display, the former Manchester United midfielder believing the forward is ‘unstoppable’ when in full flight after finally being given a run as the club’s number nine.

“I like him, I’ve always liked him,” Scholes said on BT Sport shortly after the final whistle,” Scholes said.

“Is he a No.9 or is he a wide player? He’s turned himself into a No.9 every game I watch, more and more.

“When he squares a player up and gets a run at him, I think he’s unstoppable. I don’t see how you stop him. If a defender commits himself, he’s going to give fouls away.

“Great dribbling and he’s normally a brilliant finisher. Tonight the finishing just wasn’t quite there but there was so many brilliant bits of play he produced at the end.”
