‘A hard situation’ – Sancho admits his form has suffered due to transfer speculation | OneFootball

Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho has admitted that his form has been adversely affected due the speculation regarding his future, after having been linked with a move to Manchester United throughout the previous window.

The England international has been a revelation since ditching Manchester City for the Bundesliga back in 2017, emerging as one of Europe’s most exciting young talents.

The 2019/20 campaign was particularly impressive for the 20-year-old, as he netted 17 goals and provided 16 assists in 32 Bundesliga games, as Dortmund finished second behind a rampant Bayern Munich side.

Such form, however, has not continued into this term, with the forward yet to score in the league this season and has seen him dip in and out of the starting eleven.

That slow start to the campaign came after a summer of rife speculation that Sancho would end up at Old Trafford, with Manchester United reportedly making him their top target as they looked to build upon their strong end to the season.

Any such move never came to fruition, however, with United unwilling to meet the German side’s €120million transfer valuation. After such an uncertain summer, it’s no surprise that the player suffered a slight drop off in form once the season began.

That being said the Englishman has looked somewhat back to his best in recent weeks, picking up a goal on international duty in the comfortable win over Ireland at Wembley, before netting a glorious free-kick in Dortmund’s 3-0 win over Club Brugge in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Both Sancho and Lucien Favre will be hoping that such form can continue, with the young starlet admitting that after a tough period he’s looking to get back to his best.

“I am just happy that I am playing,” Sancho told DAZN.

“I have coaches and teammates that believe in me. Recently, it’s been a hard situation for me.

”But it’s all about how I come back and have performances like this [against Brugge]. They will hopefully get me back to the top, how I was playing before.”
