Lauren Hemp says that she has no complaints about being robbed of a first England goal by teammate Beth England in the Lionesses’ 4-0 victory over Northern Ireland at Wembley last night.

Hemp lobbed visiting goalkeeper Jackie Burns in the 72nd minute at the national stadium but her goal-bound effort was guided over the line by teammate England.

The Manchester City forward is yet to score for the Lionesses and her wait goes on as a result of England’s intervention.

When speaking in the post-match press conference, Hemp played the matter down by insisting that goals scored as a team is of the greatest importance.

“I have not seen a replay of it to be honest but obviously, I have never scored a goal for England and I am waiting for that moment to happen,” Hemp said. “A goal’s a goal and I am happy with whoever puts the ball in the net at the end of the day.

“I’m really pleased with the result and with the goals that we scored.”

Hemp’s performance was arguably one of her best in an England shirt but the player is still targeting more improvement when representing the Lionesses.

She said “I am really pleased with my performance, I’m striving to be better than I was in my last game. I still know that there is a lot more that I can do to be better and I want to keep improving, that is going to come by working with the coaches and my teammates around me.

“I’m in a good place, I’m enjoying my football both for club and country. I am looking forward to the next game and I just love playing for England.”

Hemp will be hoping to open her England goalscoring account in the nation’s next game against Latvia in Liepãja on Tuesday.
