Cristiano Ronaldo believes Manchester United will take time to reach their potential

According to Sky Sports (h/t The Metro), Manchester United legend Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed that the club is currently undergoing an adaptation phase and success will follow.

The 36-year-old returned to Old Trafford in the summer following Raphael Varane, Tom Heaton and Jadon Sancho through the door. While he has impressed, the team as a whole have failed to click consistently.

United still give the appearance of strangers attempting to play together. Ronaldo believes the club is still adapting and will in time reach its potential.

“We are in a moment in my opinion that Manchester (United) do a few changes.”

Ronaldo believes the process as a whole is time taking. The onus is on the players to do their best in adapting to the system and fulfilling their promise. Hopefully, it is just a matter of time before that happens.

“The adaption will take time, even the system of the game that we play, but I think step by step we have to put it in our mind that everything is possible.”

The 36-year-old goes on to add that his role in the club is to score goals, something that he admittedly does well. Ronaldo has also urged others to identify what their purpose is and to make sacrifices for the greater good.

“If everyone is thinking like that, sacrifice for the team, I think we will be a better team.”

What exactly Ronaldo alludes he is sacrificing by being the chief goalscorer is open to interpretations. The veteran may be a one in a billion but then on the football field, he is just one of eleven.

Ronaldo must realize that this is not the same United that he left more than a decade ago. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side is not the all-conquering side of old and needs to be built one brick at a time. While Ronaldo’s sentiments are echoed by the club’s faithful, he must also do the heavy lifting and cater to the club’s needs. Even if it means taking a step back himself.
