As Barcelona head into the new year, several important contract renewals remain on the agenda.
The club’s management is working hard to ensure that the contracts of key players, both from the first team and Barça Atletic, as well as some players nearing the end of their youth careers, do not get delayed.
The focus is on managing these renewals efficiently to avoid any unnecessary complications.
The club is working with the knowledge that, from June 30 onwards, Barcelona will be able to comply with the famous 1:1 rule.
This means that new signings and contract renewals can proceed smoothly without financial restrictions. This is a crucial factor in shaping the club’s future strategy.

Among the most complex renewal cases are those of Ronald Araujo and Frenkie de Jong. De Jong’s situation, in particular, could become a long-running saga, especially considering that his current contract expires in 2026.
The Dutchman, Ali Dursun, has recently spoken about Frenkie’s comfort at Barcelona, adding some uncertainty to the future.
The club has attempted to renegotiate his contract in previous windows, proposing a salary reduction in exchange for an extension, but those efforts have been unsuccessful.
Negotiations will intensify in the early part of next year, with the possibility of a loan or even a sale depending on how the season unfolds.
As for Araujo, his situation is more straightforward. Having renewed his contract in 2022, he is committed to staying at Barcelona until 2026.
He has repeatedly expressed his desire to remain at the club, and both Flick and the management are pleased with his performances.
As the second captain, he is a key figure in the squad, embodying commitment and pride. While there may be some discussions regarding his salary, it is expected that any issues will be resolved in the coming months.

For two of Barcelona’s brightest young talents, Pedri and Gavi, there seems to be less concern. Pedri has returned to his best form, showcasing the brilliant physicality and skill that made him a star in his early years.
With his contract running until 2026, discussions with his representatives have already taken place, and the relationship remains positive.
Meanwhile, Gavi, who has just come back from a long injury layoff, is also tied to Barcelona until 2026. There are no expected issues with his renewal either, as his agent, Iván de la Peña, has a good working relationship with the club.

Another important topic that will need to be addressed is Robert Lewandowski’s optional year. This clause, tied to performance-related objectives, is likely to be triggered due to Lewandowski’s consistent form.
However, there is still the possibility that both parties might decide not to extend his contract, in which case mutual agreement would be required, possibly involving some form of compensation.
The situation will become clearer as the season progresses, though Lewandowski’s impressive performances so far suggest a positive outcome.

One of the new additions to the first team this season is Gerard Martin, who has impressed after coming up from Barça Atletic.
As a full-back, he provides valuable depth to the team, complementing Alejandro Balde on the left side.
Martin has earned the trust of Hansi Flick, and his contract renewal is already sorted. The deal, which will keep him at the club until 2028 with a €100 million release clause, is expected to be formalised soon.
Overall, Barcelona have a busy year ahead, with key contract renewals on the horizon. The club’s management will need to take on these situations carefully to ensure a strong future for both the team and their players.
