After the disappointment of last weekend’s heavy loss to Newcastle, Chelsea have responded in style against Brighton.

Quick-fire goals from Enzo Fernández and Levi Colwill put the hosts in front – a first in the Premier League for the former and a first for the club for the latter.

The World Cup winner opened the scoring in the 17th minute with a great header after Brighton failed to clear their lines and Benoît Badiashile hooked the ball towards Fernández, who made no mistake.

It was the £107m man’s first goal in the league on his 31st appearance, and it was long overdue. No player had more shots (22) without a goal this season than the Chelsea midfielder.

Four minutes later and it was two and, again, questions could be asked about the Seagulls’ defending – the absence of captain Lewis Dunk perhaps being felt. Former loanee Colwill benefited, just about getting the ball over the line for his first Blues goal.

All hope is not lost for Brighton, though, given they have failed to score in just one of their last 41 league outings.
