A CRUCIAL VICTORY FOR THE ROSSONERE

It was less comfortable than it could have been at the end, but the Rossonere deservedly returned to winning ways in the league thanks to a 3-2 success against Como Women at the PUMA House of Football. The team’s seven-match winless run is over, with AC Milan having ended it in a crucial encounter. A Stašková brace (12’ and 62’) proved decisive in a match where Marta Mascarello (43') also got on the scoresheet. The Rossonere were excellent for over three-quarters of the game, before Como brought it back to 3-2 with goals from Škorvánková (79') and Martinović (94') in the closing stages. Nevertheless, Corti’s side were able to secure their first victory since AC Milan 4-1 Pomigliano on 22 October and, in doing so, build on their 3-0 win away to Sassuolo in the Coppa Italia last Thursday.

Following two positive performances and results, Corti’s side are enjoying a good moment and put some excellent moves together today, especially in the first half. Having held on to claim victory, the Rossonere have moved to within two points of fifth place, which is currently occupied by Como. Now, attentions will turn to the upcoming away match against Pomigliano, which is scheduled to take place at 12:30 CET on Sunday 28 January. The aim is to continue to gain momentum and enjoy a great second half to the season.

MATCH REPORT The Rossonere got off to a strong start and created several opportunities early on: Swaby came close to finishing a scramble in the ninth minute, while Korenčiová produced a great save to keep out a Mascarello free-kick with eleven minutes on the clock. AC Milan then went ahead from the resulting corner: Mascarello took it (her ninth assist for the Rossonere) and Stašková converted at the near post to make it 1-0. Coach Corti’s side carried on pushing and almost doubled their advantage in the 24th minute: Mascarello got on the end of a Dubcová cross but saw her effort blocked from close range. At the other end, Cox fired narrowly over with her left foot from inside the area (40’). Having survived a scare, the Rossonere netted their second: Asllani’s shot from Soffia’s left-wing cross rebounded out to Mascarello, who fired home with her right foot to give AC Milan some breathing room.

The Rossonere also controlled proceedings at the start of the second half, and, after 15 minutes of sustained pressure, their third goal of the game duly arrived through Andrea Stašková, who got on the end of Piga’s knockdown from a Mascarello free-kick and supplied the finish. It was her third goal in two league matches, and the Rossonere were well on their way to victory. However, just when AC Milan were at their most confident, Como found the strength to pull one back through Škorvánková, who took advantage of a misunderstanding between Vigilucci and Swaby and beat the outrushing Giuliani (79’). The visitors had a bit more wind in their sails and grabbed a second thanks to Martinović’s 94th-minute header, but it was too late: we ran out 3-2 winners!
