Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg left frustrated with himself and his Tottenham teammates after draw against Fulham

Speaking in an interview after the match against Fulham (h/t Football.london), Tottenham midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg questioned his teammates’ focus and bravery after letting another lead slip in the league.

Spurs scored within the first half-hour of the match after a great header from Harry Kane. The initial 45 minutes was littered with chances for Tottenham, but we only managed one goal.

The best chance to double the lead came around the 70th minute when Son Heung-min struck the post. Just 3 minutes later, a cross from Ademola Lookman found the head of Ivan Cavaleiro.

The winger outjumped Eric Dier to score the last goal of the match. This was the 5th time this season that Spurs had taken the lead but failed to win the game.

And Hojbjerg, who himself had a chance to put the game to bed, thinks his teammates have to shoulder the blame for the draw because of their lack of ‘bravery’ in the match.

“We have to do better in a couple of aspects of the game. More bravery, more focus in terms of organising the team and being solid as a team.”

A big opportunity squandered

The Danish midfielder acknowledged that he should have taken his chance to score. He then added that just having numbers back isn’t enough.

“That doesn’t mean you have to stand in your own box and defend, it means the team is compact, the team is close to each other.”

The result would come as a dagger to the heart of the Tottenham fans who would have seen their team go 3rd on the table with a win.
