Will Still was not tender in his analysis of Stade de Reims’ 3-1 loss to RC Strasbourg Alsace on Saturday, which dented the Stadistes’ hopes of securing qualification for European competition next season.

After RC Lens slipped up against FC Metz on Friday night, Reims had the chance to go level with Les Sang et Or in sixth place. Still’s side began well, opening the scoring through Keito Nakamura early in the first half, however, by the midway point of the first half, they had ceded control of the game.

Reims contending with injury crisis

Kevin Gameiro equalised before the break, before Amadou Koné, who had only been on the pitch for 30 minutes after coming on as a substitute, was sent off for two needless yellow cards. At a numerical disadvantage, Strasbourg made Reims pay. Patrick Vieira’s side netted twice in the second half to secure a victory that greatly bolsters Les Alsaciens’ survival hopes.
