Manchester City’s on loan Brazilian international Yan Couto appears set for permanent exit from the world champions this summer. Couto has starred for Girona this season during his loan spell with the La Liga surprise packets.

A report from Estadio Deportivo, which was relayed by Sport Witness, indicates that Manchester City will sell Yan Couto this summer. They go on to report that City have made it clear that the Brazilian international isn’t part of their plans going forward. Furthermore, it is also reported that Bayer Leverkusen, Juventus, and Girona all have interest in signing Yan Couto this summer.

Manchester City does appear to be well covered at right-back.

A quick look at the Manchester City squad indicates that there is adequate cover at the right-back position. Currently, Kyle Walker, Rico Lewis, John Stones, and Manuel Akanji can all play the position. If Yan Couto was to return to the club after his loan spell with Girona, he would face an uphill battle to find a place in Pep Guardiola’s squad. While there will be a time when the champions will look to replace Kyle Walker, it doesn’t appear that Couto is the player to fill that role.

There could potentially be another factor at play in City’s reported move to sell Couto. Transfer expert Dean Jones has told GIVEMESPORT that the champions hold interest in signing Bayer Leverkusen full-back Jeremie Frimpong.  Jones said that the champions have identified Frimpong as a player who could potentially be the ideal replacement for Kyle Walker. Furthermore, Jones adds that lure of playing under Pep Guardiola may see Frimpong seek a move to City this summer. If this proves to be the case, there doesn’t appear to be a role for Yan Couto in the Manchester City squad.

As a player, Yan Couto thrives as an attacking full-back. He has shown this ability during his impressive form this season. This season, he has contributed 10 assists and scored two goals in 38 appearances for Girona. There are, however, concerns over his defensive ability. This, coupled with the other factors previously mentioned, will likely see Manchester City cash in on the Brazilian international this summer.

The champions will likely get a decent transfer fee for Yan Couto.

If Manchester City does sell Couto this summer, he will likely fetch a tidy transfer fee. It would be more shrewd business from the champions if they could fetch a sizable fee for the Brazilian international. Couto is a talented player, but he doesn’t appear to have a role in Pep Guardiola’s squad going forward.
