A 3-1 DEFEAT TO ROMA

Article image:A 3-1 DEFEAT TO ROMA

Another victory for Roma. At the Tre Fontane, just under a month since the defeat in the Coppa Italia semi-finals, the Rossonere lost by the same scoreline today: 3-1. The Giallorosse, who seem well on their way to their first-ever Scudetto, deserved their victory given the chances they created and the quality they displayed. However, AC Milan, who had to deal with a number of absences, were very much in the contest in the first half, with a goal from Vigilucci cancelling out Linari’s opener.

After the restart, Spugna’s side regained and extended their advantage thanks to Glionna and Haavi before digging in at the end as Piemonte, Sevenius and Vigilucci threatened to reduce the arrears. The Rossonere’s third match of the championship round didn’t go their way, with the team yet to taste victory since the start of the new phase. The next opportunity for Ganz’s side to turn things around will be on 22 April, when they’ll face Inter in the derby at the PUMA House of Football. A three-week break awaits, during which the team can recharge their batteries.

MATCH REPORT The Rossonere looked to make a bright start and threatened after four minutes as Dubcová played in a cross for Soffia, who was thwarted at the near post. Roma then took the lead through Linari (8’), who found the net at the far post following a corner that had travelled all the way through the box. The hosts were the better team and almost scored a second in the 29th minute, with Glionna’s shot being cleared off the line by Thrige. However, AC Milan managed to draw level through Vigilucci, who bagged on the rebound following Ceasar’s save to keep out Soffia’s header.

Roma restored their lead at the start of the second half and then all but killed off the game. First, Giuliani was caught out by Glionna’s near-post free-kick from a tight angle. Then, with the wind in their sails, the league leaders added a third ten minutes later thanks to Haavi, who unleashed an unstoppable right-footed strike from the edge of the box. Following a few substitutions, Roma managed their advantage effectively as Ganz’s girls tried to get back into it. There were long-range efforts from Piemonte and Sevenius, while Ceasar then produced heroics to deny Piemonte and Vigilucci. It finished 3-1.
