Real Madrid have almost wrapped up their 2024 calendar year in a very good fashion as they won yet another title, their fifth of the year, last night. The Merengues came out victorious over the Mexican side Pachuca with a 3-0 scoreline in the final of the Intercontinental Cup and thus won a trophy that has been reincarnated after being replaced by the FIFA Club World Cup since 2004.

All three forwards in the Los Blancos frontline, Vinicius Junior, Kylian Mbappe, and Rodrygo Goes, scored and impressed in this game.

However, another player who continued with his excellent form in that match was the midfielder Federico Valverde, who did not get on the scoresheet this time, after having scored a screamer against Rayo Vallecano in his last league match, but was still instrumental for his team.

As has been the case with him for some years now, the Uruguayan was once again all over the pitch and gave his all to help his team, both with and without the ball.

According to Sofascore data, in the 90 minutes that he stayed on the pitch, he got 94 touches, and completed 77 of his 83 passes, recording a 93% passing success rate. Similarly, he provided 3 key passes throughout the game and also completed all 5 of his attempted 5 long balls.

Valverde also showed his energy and determination in this game, as he won 6 of his 7 ground duels and also 1 of his 2 aerial duels.

His contributions in defence were also key for Real Madrid as Pachuca did not really sit back and gave quite a hard time to the Merengues, especially in the first half. In this game, the Uruguayan made 6 tackles and made 1 clearance.

Overall, this was another highly encouraging performance from Valverde, who once again proved why it is so difficult for Carlo Ancelotti to drop him from his starting lineups. He is clearly one of the most used players for Real Madrid this season, and hopefully, he will continue to help his team win other big trophies as the business end of the season approaches.
