Arsenal are among the top football clubs keen on signing Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez, who has dazzled the footballing world since his move from Mexico.

However, acquiring him will come at a price; reports indicate that Feyenoord are demanding a record Eredivisie fee of £90 million for the striker.

Santiago Gimenez, 22, has been making waves in European football since joining Feyenoord at the start of last season.

Scoring a remarkable 38 goals in 56 games, including 15 in just 11 matches this season (13 in 9 league games), he has captured the attention of several high-profile clubs, including Arsenal.

Gimenez’s impressive form has not only attracted interest from Arsenal, but also from Chelsea, Real Madrid, and Tottenham.

Despite the interest, a report by 90min suggests that Real Madrid do not consider him to be a top target. Chelsea and Arsenal could, therefore, capitalise, having both monitored his recent performances.

Gimenez won’t come cheap, however.

To lure the Mexican sensation away from Feyenoord, both Arsenal and Chelsea would have to break the Eredivisie transfer record.

The current record is £87 million, the amount Manchester United paid for Antony when he transferred from Ajax last year.

It’s also worth noting that Gimenez is under contract until 2027, placing Feyenoord in a strong bargaining position for any potential transfer fee.

Although it seems that he won’t be available in the January transfer window, clubs will likely have to wait until next summer to sign him.

Despite the steep price, Gimenez represents the sort of high-impact player that could significantly enhance either Arsenal’s or Chelsea’s attacking options.

It’s not just Gimenez that has caught the eye of Arsenal scouts, as we know. Arsenal and Chelsea are reportedly also in a tussle for Brentford and England man Ivan Toney, adding another layer of rivalry between the two London clubs.

In terms of the broader picture, Gimenez’s emergence serves as a reminder of the global reach of the Premier League and its appeal to young talent worldwide. The potential signing of Gimenez would continue this trend, but it remains to be seen if Arsenal or any other interested party will meet Feyenoord’s hefty valuation of the player.
