A new era is well underway at Leeds United, with Daniel Farke at the helm for the club's first Championship campaign in over three years, where he is aiming to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

The two-time winner of the second tier with Norwich City is hoping to see the club bounce back and will also be eyeing the title as well, which is something the Whites won the last time they played second tier football under Marcelo Bielsa.

They are currently in the race for automatic promotion alongside the likes of Leicester City, Ipswich Town, and Southampton, and have occupied a spot in the top four since the 12th matchday of the season, where they have remained since and where they almost certainly will finish the campaign as well.

Leeds' Premier League quest

Farke is looking to emulate the good work of Bielsa from four years ago but will also want to keep Leeds in the top-flight, just as the Argentine did when he impressively finished ninth upon their return.

Unlike Bielsa, Farke has inherited a particularly strong group of players, with many remaining with the club following their relegation. Bielsa, meanwhile, was tasked with securing a return to English football's top-flight for the first time in over 16 years, with Leeds languishing in mid-table for many of the seasons prior to his arrival.

Historically, Leeds have been a top-flight club for most of their history, and have played 15 seasons in the Premier League since its inception in 1992. During the first year of what was then Premiership football, Leeds were the reigning champions of the old Division One.

Not only that, but in seven of the next 12 seasons, the Whites would finish in the top five of English football's premier division, with their lowest position prior to 2004 being 17th in a 22-team division in the 1992/93 campaign.

Leeds' all-time Premier League ranking

Unsurprisingly, the 'big six' lead the way at the top of the league in terms of points, with sides such as Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs, and Everton all given a helping hand by being the only clubs to have never been relegated from the Premier League and to have featured in every season so far.

Leeds are the highest-ranked club in terms of a side with 15 or fewer seasons, though. Middlesbrough are their closest competition but have 661 points from their 15 years competing at that level, which is 159 less than Leeds.

What is perhaps most impressive for Leeds is that they are seventh in the all-time ranking for Points Per Game, with 1.41. Blackburn, who are one of only seven sides to have won the title, are eighth with 1.39; the six most obvious clubs are the only sides above that pair, ahead of heavyweights such as Everton, Newcastle, and Aston Villa.

Those latter three sides and the 'big six' dominate the list, but Leeds' standing is impressive and perhaps points to a club with enormous potential in Europe, as the graphic below also suggests in commercial terms, too.
