Just when it looks like the Derby County takeover saga is finally going to reach a conclusion and there appears to be light at the end of the tunnel, it then continues to drag on and on.
Many were hoping for Chris Kirchner’s bid to get the Rams out of trouble to have been concluded by now, but the exclusivity deadline has been extended twice in order for the American to secure a deal for Pride Park.
Without the club’s stadium, a takeover cannot be concluded by Kirchner, and in-turn Derby are unable to renew the contracts of any of their out of contract players, as well as sign new ones ahead of the 2022-23 League One season.
Kirchner has already revealed that when Wayne Rooney is allowed to start operating again as normal that there won’t be a ‘ton of cash’ to spend, meaning that like most third tier clubs, County will need to be shrewd in their moves.
A market that Rooney could use extensively is the Premier League loan market with his contacts in the game and presumably young players wanting to play for an England icon.
With that in mind, let’s look at EIGHT top flight players who could be targeted this summer by Rooney to strengthen the Derby squad.
