8 players Arsenal still need to sell

Article image:8 players Arsenal still need to sell

Arsenal aren’t finished in the transfer window but before they can bring in any more players, they have quite a few they need to move on.

Arsenal have completed quite a lot of deals already this summer but when it comes to collecting fees for players, they aren’t the best at it.

So far, they’ve sold Bernd Leno for an initial £3m (it might make it to £8m but that requires Fulham to avoid relegation for two seasons, something they haven’t done since 2014).

Some other small fees have also been picked up for youth players but, looking at the list of who is for sale and, perhaps more importantly, who wants to buy them, there isn’t much money to come in, regardless.

Runar Alex Runarsson

He clearly has no future at Arsenal and should never have been signed in the first place, but can we get rid of him?

Another loan seems likely rather than a sale to recoup any of the £1.8m Arsenal spent to buy him.

The 27yo still has two years left on his current Arsenal deal.

Hector wants to go back to Real Betis and Real Betis really want him but they can’t afford him and would quite like Arsenal to let him leave for much less than he is worth.

Cedric

Nobody is even being linked with Cedric, so we do have to ask the question are we even trying to sell him?

We should be. We are, aren’t we?

Pablo Mari

Mari does at least have a few suitors but, again, they are cash-strapped sides that want loans.

Lucas Torreira

In perhaps the most shocking development of the summer, Galatasaray look like they might finally be about to pay real cash money for an Arsenal player. Usually, they just prefer to see their name linked with Arsenal players they have no intention of signing because they have no cash. A deal is believed to be agreed for around €7.5m.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles

It’s clear that Mikel Arteta isn’t a fan of Maitland-Niles but there has also been very little gossip around him.

With his contract expiring next season, a decision to sell or renew needs to be taken but I can’t imagine Ainsley wanting to agree a new deal at this point unless he receives assurances around his future at the club, which he isn’t going to get.

Similarly, it has been relatively quiet on the Reiss Nelson front.

There were some reports at the start of the window when he first returned from his loan with Feyenoord, but there has been little since.

Nicolas Pepe

Is he going? Is he staying? Arsenal want to sell him but can they find a buyer who will pay him wages that make him leave?

His latest comments sounded more like a man ready for another season at the club more than anything else.
