Few clubs would deny taking over the prospects that currently play at FC Barcelona. These players, irrespective of collective results, remain as some of Europe’s finest. However, the fact that these Barcelona players remain so sought after could actually be a wildcard for the Catalan giants.

La Blaugrana wish to retain their best sporting prospects, and these players are seen as the future of the club itself. However, given their financial necessities, it would not be beyond Barcelona to ultimately see them let go of certain important players in order to revamp the team.

That is why, in the latest update by SPORT, the name that no longer remains a guarantee at Barcelona is Ronald Araujo. The Uruguayan defender, despite being one of the very best at Barcelona, is now reportedly seen as being more away from the club than he is close to continuing with it.

In terms of the reasons behind this, a major contributor popped up after Barça’s exit in the UEFA Champions League. The Uruguayan defender was blamed heavily for the loss and his subsequent public drama with Barcelona teammate Ilkay Gundogan did not make matters any easier to deal with.

Moreover, there is also the economic side of things to consider. The Barcelona defender and captain signed an extension with the club in 2022 that would see him stick to the team until 2026, with a termination clause of €1 billion. However, it is also true that the player made an economic sacrifice at the time to continue playing with Barcelona despite their financial woes.

Now, however, he expected the club to reward that previous sacrifice and showcase substantial economic improvements in the renewal that they offer him. That has ultimately not been the case, and teams such as Bayern Munich, Manchester United, Chelsea, and other top sides are willing to give him offers worth significantly more in terms of financial compensation.

Furthermore, even the player’s entourage has provided no reply to the approaches made by Barcelona. Despite hoping to receive a word back from them, none of their new proposals for a renewal have made any progress and his continuity seems to be in more danger than ever before.

At the moment, even though Barcelona understand his sporting importance, they also acknowledge the need for sizeable sales. With that in mind, La Blaugrana are currently heading into the next few days with the idea that Ronald Araujo may be further away from Barcelona than he has ever been before.
