£6M? Wolves source claims Rangers’ Fabio Silva could come on the mega cheap | OneFootball

A direct Wolves source has suggested serial Rangers fantasist Fraser Gillan/Fletcher’s recent claims that the Molineux side are ready to accept £15M for on-loan striker Fabio Silva is itself effectively fiction and in fact the Premier League regulars are willing to cut their losses almost completely on the hitman.

In a shock development, it is being claimed from Wolves outlets that £15M is ‘optimistic’ which suggests Rangers could actually make this deal permanent after all, with Gary O’Neill’s side happy to write this one off.

Indeed, even transfermarkt, a very reliable source for realistic player valuations, estimates Silva at no more than £11M at the moment, and we think even that would be overselling his value.

He’s been increasingly ‘decent’ at Rangers, but he has far from sparkled and Rangers’ board are unlikely to sanction a sum of £10M on Silva, a player who just didn’t work in the Premier League and who Wolves sources now confirm are ready to wash their hands of.

So what do we think on this one?

To be clear, Wolves paid Porto a staggering £35M for a player who had barely scraped through the Portuguese side’s senior system, with 3 goals and 2 assists in 21 for the full team.

His youth displays for their kids had sparkled alright, 9 goals and assists in 9 for the lads in UEFA’s Youth League, but he didn’t make the step up, and Nuno Espírito Santo, Silva’s countryman, believed he could get the best from the boy, and threw £35M at the Primeira Liga giants.

It was an investment that failed, and current boss O’Neill isn’t interested in Silva one bit, and is happy to let him go.

So for Rangers to get him (and Clement is said to want him permanently having admitted he was too expensive in January to sign that way) we’re talking circa £6M and no more.

That’s a loss of around £30M for Wolves, but they know they’re going to lose on this kid no matter what.

In short, he’s happy at Rangers, and they have to choose between his happiness at Rangers, and losing out on their own coffers.

Unfortunately for Rangers, Wolves are in around £70M of debt/loss and writing off £30M of that will be very tough for them to do.
