On 26 June 1955, Real Madrid clinched their first Latin Cup after defeating Stade de Reims 2-0. The final was played at the Parc des Princes, where Héctor Rial bagged a brace to inspire the Whites to victory. The following year, Madrid would again defeat the French side in the first European Cup final.
Before lifting the 1955 Latin Cup, the side played a semi-final match in Paris against Os Belenenses and reached the final thanks to goals from Zárraga and Pérez-Payá as Madrid won 2-0. In the other semi-final, Stade de Reims won 3-2 against AC Milan. Real Madrid added the Latin Cup to their silverware list and would go on the win the trophy again in 1957.
