Late last week, transfer news broke surrounding Queens Park Rangers goalkeeper Seny Dieng.

Indeed, as per Guardian journalist Will Unwin, a trio of Premier League clubs are interested in signing the R’s shot stopper.

Fortunately for QPR, it seems as though they won’t have to go out and get a replacement for their keeper this month, with the Premier League trio said to be interested in a summer move, as opposed to one this winter window.

With the above transfer links in mind, here at FLW, we thought we’d take a quick glance at Seny Dieng’s performance for QPR this season in terms of numbers.

All stats are courtesy of WyScout, unless otherwise specified.

Dieng’s 22/23 performance in numbers

First and foremost, looking at the most basic statistics, we can see that Dieng has been firmly first choice in the goalkeeping department at Loftus Road this campaign.

Indeed, to date, the 28-year-old has played 28 matches in the Championship, during which he has conceded 34 goals.

That translates to Dieng having conceded, on average, 1.11 goals per 90.

True or false: The club was founded over 150 years ago!

True False

Interestingly, this underperforms against the goalkeeper’s expected conceded goals (xCG) which only stands at 0.95 per 90.

This perhaps suggests improvements could be made, which bears out when you look at some statistics from FBREF.

As per their scout report on Dieng, his save percentage is just 65.3% per 90, which rank him in just the 32nd percentile for Championship goalkeepers this season.

Furthermore, generally, he is making less saves, too, saving just 2.14 shots per 90, which again, only put him in the 32nd percentile in the second tier this season according to FBREF.

Despite that, though, Dieng has still managed to keep seven clean sheets in the league so far this campaign, although that does rank 14th in the division at present.

League leaders Ben Wilson (Coventry City), Daniel Bachmann (Watf0rd) and Freddie Woodman (Preston North End) lead the league all tied on 12 for the season so far.

To his credit, though, one area that Dieng seems to do well statistically is when it comes to dealing with crosses.

Indeed, Dieng successfully stops 7.5% of the 14.71 crosses into his penalty area per 90, which, whilst does not sound a lot, does rank him in the 67th percentile out of Championship goalkeepers.

Having produced the above numbers so far this campaign, Dieng has earned a WhoScored match rating of 6.61 for the 2022/23 campaign so far.

Indeed, whilst on the eye the R’s keeper has seemed decent enough this season, perhaps the numbers above suggest it has been slightly more underwhelming.
