Ever since Barcelona have embarked on the quest to find a worthy successor to Sergio Busquets, one of the names that has been linked with the Catalan club is Joshua Kimmich.

The Blaugranes tried to sign the German in the last summer transfer window, but their economic difficulties and the reluctance of Bayern Munich to part with their star kept the Blaugranes from getting him.

However, now, with only one year remaining on his contract and an agreement yet to be arrived upon for a renewal, Bayern can decide to sell him this summer, and Barcelona are fully attentive to his situation.

For now, the Catalans understand that the player would be more than happy to join them, and according to SPORT, one of the clearest indications of Kimmich’s intent is the fact that he has been studying Spanish for years now, and is very attracted to the idea of playing for Barcelona.

He, along with Martin Zubimendi, are two of the favourite targets of Xavi for the midfield pivot position, while Kimmich’s versatility also appeals a lot to the Barcelona head coach.

This feeling is also reciprocated by Kimmich, who has publicly declared Xavi as one of his idols in the past. However, another coach that the German highly likes is Ralf Rangnick, and his appointment as the next Bayern Munich coach can result in a change of heart for the midfielder.

Meanwhile, Barcelona are also not the only club that Kimmich can join. This was clear from Kimmich’s recent response to a question regarding the interest from Real Madrid and Barcelona, to which he replied:

“For the moment, I’m not thinking about that. As I’ve already said, I will first talk with Bayern. But, of course, Barcelona and Real Madrid are incredible clubs with an amazing history.”

Thus, while a lot needs to happen for Kimmich to join the Azulgrana, it is clear that he is intrigued by the idea of donning the blue and garnet jersey, and is already working to make this desire a reality.
